The human brain is not technically trained to see the details. It is trained to get to the big picture to keep things moving. Our brain is very good at filling in the blanks when facts are missing. What happens when you retool your brain to technically see the details that are present?
Consider this fact about golf, your eye has been trained to put a 1.68-inch ball into a 4.25-inch hole. How difficult is that? The hole on a golf course is 253% larger than the golf ball, so when putting, your eyes are trained to accept a + – 50% standard deviation to putt that ball into the hole! That is 2 inches on either side of the target line (4.25” – .25” ratio (ball friction to grass = ¼” (=.25))) to the hole. If we strike the ball and it holds its center target line directly into the diameter of the hole, the targeted path would be a 100% true because the ball would NOT deviate from its ¼” targeted path. So, based on ¼” targeted path to a hole that is 4.25”, there are 17 quarter inch target paths (4.25”/ ¼”ball to surface) the golfer can choose in his or her attempt to make a putt. That’s one of the PuttingMaster™ breakthrough discoveries and from our perspective, this is monumental! Unfortunately, most golfers have been incorrectly practicing for hundreds of years. The problem is, each time you putt, your target path can change based on the 17 path variations. Variation is the archenemy of precision! We call this Putting to Variance™ or PTV. Here are some staggering statistics about putting. According to 2017 – 2018 stats for the top 200 PGA Tour Pros (https://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.343.2017.html, https://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.343.2018.html); from 7 feet, tour players make their putts 60.37% of the time, so 39.63% of the time, the odds are they chose an incorrect target path outside of the 17 variables they had at their disposal. To further complicate matters, from 10 feet, 40.98% of the time PGA Tour pros make their putts, leaving a 59.02% chance that they chose the wrong target path line. The impeding question is; can we do a better job of choosing a more accurate target line that increases the probability of the ball dropping into the hole? What if we could narrow the putting path and dramatically reduce the 17 paths you can take to putt the ball in the hole?
Here at PUTTINGMASTER™, we have discovered a critical flaw in putting training, putting products and putting practices we golfers incorporate on and off the course. Keep in mind, the above referenced stats are for pros, who are not happy with their stats. Where does that leave the rest of us who are not on the PGA/LPGA tour? Our goal is not to insult you, but our (amateurs) numbers are dismal. We doubt if we could find one PGA/LPGA tour pro or amateur who believes their putting is “good enough” where they could deemphasize their practice regimen because they are that satisfied with their putting. At PUTTINGMASTER™, we think the variances are totally unacceptable. According to history, golf was invented in or about 1457 (http://www.golfeurope.com/almanac/history/history1.htm) and here we are in 2019 and technology has dramatically changed in equipment and training, but dramatic putting practice and the devices used have gone virtually unchanged in comparison to the rest of the clubs in the bag. We recognize there are many putting devices, lasers, training aids and techniques that are on the market today, but they still suffer from the same common flaw, Putting to Variance ™.
We, at PUTTINGMASTER™, are disturbed at this harsh reality of the putting paradox. This one activity is physically the easiest to do, but the most difficult to execute. Putting is the hardest thing to do when you consider that it has the smallest margin for error compared to the tee shot and approach shots. As golfers, we respect and applaud the books that have been written, the training aids that have been used and the techniques that have been employed to improve putting. However, there have been no substantive quantum leaps in the field of putting. No matter how beautiful and long your drives are, off the tee, if you miss the putt, you’ve wasted a great drive and it was all for naught. We can all conjure up the image of tour players who have missed a short putt to either tie or win a tournament. That missed putt is forever etched in the mind of that tour player and for all that witnessed it around the world. The act of putting is a serious issue for most pro and amateur golfers. We will always miss putts, but let’s work on really improving our stroke to maximize efficiency, effectiveness, precision and eliminate wasted effort.
How has PUTTINGMASTER™ solved the putting paradox? We are so glad you asked and you will be shocked at our answer! Hold on to your putter!
- To put this in a less technical perspective, normally when we train, we allow for a 4.0-inch (2 inches each side of the target line) deviation from the line we chose to make the putt. Today, you can hit your ball off a 90⁰ perpendicular strike and still make the putt. On a typical putter, you have about a 3-inch face and you must hit a ≤ 1/4-inch spot in the center of the putter face in order to hit a perfect 90⁰ perpendicular ball strike or a “pure-in-line-square (PILS) stroke 1. Statistics show that there is a struggle making putts that are outside of 5 feet. A rifle marksperson cannot consistently hit a target, at any distance, without a scope. Can they get close? Is getting close the goal or is hitting the center of the target the goal? You must be specific about the intended goal. In golf, to be realistic, we want to get better at consistently making more one putts from 15 feet in, no questions. Any putt longer than 15 feet, we would be satisfied by getting it close for a tap in two putt.
- Our training product dramatically narrows the target path line margins and makes it extremely difficult for you to hit a dramatically smaller target. If you consistently hit your target line, using our product, we will have improved your ability to hit your putter square and nail putts from 15 feet in, consistently. Consistently means, less than or equal to two putts with a higher probability of a one putt. Imagine trying to hit a target that is 22.67 times smaller (3/16” =.1875; 4.25”/.1875 = 22.67) than a 4.25 target hole using a ball that is 34.4% smaller than a regulation golf ball from distances 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 feet out. If we start to practice under these conditions, something miraculous happens in the brain and stroke of the person who is putting. PUTTINGMASTER™ has created an extreme product and condition for your new putting regimen. We encourage you to read up on any Hall of Fame athlete to discover what practice regimen they deployed to take their performance level to a point above all others. Chances are they were training with greater difficulty with focused precision in mind. In the Dave Pelz’s Putting Bible book, he identifies 15 Building Blocks of the Putting Game.2 We believe our PuttingMaster™ J316 balls address 12 of those 15.
So, what should you expect from us?
- When you train with our balls, you relearn proper and less flawed 90⁰ perpendicular ball striking because of the reduced size of the ball. We learned that neurotransmitters (https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-a-neurotransmitter-2795394) are a big deal in thoughts, moods and muscle memory³ which are critical in both life and sports. Just in case you are not clear on the function of the neurotransmitters, they are chemical messengers that transmit signals from one cell to another that translates to concentration, mood and muscle memory. When using our balls, your brain releases new neurotransmitters because the training is much more difficult than what you have been practicing in the past. You must develop a new level of skills. With this new information, the brain MUST process what is happening and emit new neurotransmitters. Our balls help erase poor and flawed techniques and replace them with proper and more precise techniques. Key neurotransmitters that are released with putting are: Acetylcholine (activating muscle), Norepinephrine (heart rate), Gaba (anxiety) and Serotonin (happiness). Because of the difficulty associate with using our PuttingMaster™ balls, the difficulty increases focus and, in some cases, increases stress levels.4 What’s cool is the brain relearns and locks into what is more correct when it comes to putting with 90⁰ perpendicular ball In addition, we prefer you not putt to a 4.25” hole, that’s old school. We would rather you putt to just a 3/16 of an inch target using a 1” ball, where there is little to no tolerance for a mishit. Many pros practice putting to a tee erected on the green, but they miss out on the opportunity to make it even more difficult by using a smaller ball, close in weight to that of a regulation golf ball. This is a different level of complexity and demands mental toughness and focus. We encourage you to practice with a friend and place bets on who is going to hit the target at various distances. This will increase your heart rate and replicate (to a certain extent) what happens on the golf course. After our training, your mind’s eye and motor skills have been recalibrated. After practicing, you will see a much larger ball that is easier to hit and a much larger target, the hole. With having less stress, you will step up to your putts with greater confidence with your putting stroke and hitting your intended target line. Your putting mechanics are now slowed as you cannot be quick with your takeaway because we do not allow for a lot of play on the face of the putter. PuttingMaster ™ balls force you to take a linear takeaway, consistently. If you are not taking your club back in a linear fashion, you will very seldom hit the 3/16-inch target. If your alignment begins wrong, it will end wrong and you will NOT hit your target lines. PuttingMaster™ helps correct these deficiencies. You can take our balls to the practice greens and go through our putting routine for precision putting refinement prior to your round.
- Our PuttingMaster™ practice balls quickly eliminate mishits off the putter and your ball will roll on the target path line you have chosen when struck properly. If you are wondering why our ball is smooth and does not possess the same outer skin as a regulation golf ball, it’s because it is not a golf ball. The golf ball has a hexagonal skin to reduce drag at high impact speeds (Co-efficient of Restitution)
(http://www.leaderboard.com/GLOSSARY_COEFFICIENTOFRESTITUTION) We are putting, which is NOT a high impact activity. It’s an activity that beckons finesse and control. A smooth skin makes it more difficult for the golfer’s PuttingMaster™J316 ball to hold its line because friction has been dramatically reduced. So, a smooth ball has the propensity to “slide” from its intended target line if not hit squarely. A regulation golf ball possesses more friction and is more likely to “hold” its line from start to finish even on the miss hit.
- When you return to using your regular golf ball for practice or play, your brain and eye will be shocked at how large the regulation golf ball is and how large the target hole is. Remember our neurotransmitter discussion? Your confidence in choosing the correct target line will have dramatically improved. Your muscle memory fires, your heart rate slows, as does your anxiety. You have increased your probability of making the putt because of these physiological factors associated with putting. You are now possessing the confidence in making a less than or equal to 15-foot putt. We will not be able to stop you from two putting from 40 feet or more, but we are confident that we can change things for pros and amateurs from 15 feet in.
- Our PuttingMaster™ J316 practice balls with a 3/16-inch target will refine your 90⁰ perpendicular ball striking which assists you in hitting your line choices. Training with a PuttingMaster™ ball gives you a 1/4 of an inch lane which ensures that you have a fighting chance of exceeding the PGA’s pro putting stats. This is precision putting, and in golf, 1/16th of an inch is a major difference on the PGA tour. This equates to lower scores for us amateurs! Without our balls, you will continue to practice on a 4.25-inch variance path with many (17) different lane choices.
- We recommend not training with our balls beyond around 13 feet. Up to 13 feet is enough to calibrate your putting stroke. No matter what the distance of your putt beyond 13 feet, you still will be able to hit your ball 90⁰ perpendicular. We DO NOT recommend training with our balls much beyond 5 feet on extremely fast, high stimpmeter rated greens. A short distance is enough in calibrating your stroke. We also do not recommend using our 28mm balls on Seashore Paspalum type greens. We would recommend our 33mm balls for those type greens.
- Some golfers have an improper shoulder tilt when they putt. As a result, it promotes a flawed set up and contact with the ball. Our PuttingMaster™ balls assist with shoulder tilt corrections to enable better setup putting mechanics. Grip variances can also promote hitting the top section of the golf ball with more top spin. If this is your technique or strategy, we would also recommend using our larger 33mm J316 balls.
- The PuttingMaster™ will help with your “lag putts” at distances far greater that 15 feet because of the dramatic impact our balls will have increasing consistency on your 90⁰ perpendicular ball striking. Picking the proper target line is critical to distances where you need to lag putt. You will have better putting mechanics and distance feel as a result of using our technology.
Being an excellent putter is having the confidence to hit the target line you have chosen for your putt. If you chose the right line to the center of the cup, the ball will drop in the cup. If you chose the wrong line, but you hit the line, you will still have made a good put. Our training regimen helps you hit the right target line with greater precision. Reading the green is your responsibility, hitting your target line is ours. However, like anything, if you want to get good at something, you must practice it consistently. Here is what is even more remarkable, results are seen quickly. Beta testing reveals that you can spend as little as 2:35 minutes per day refining your putting skills. Once your putting stroke is refined, it comes down to simple stroke maintenance. No matter where you live, if you have carpet in your home, office or hotel room, you can use our targets. We designed them for our friends in cold climates that do not get to practice outdoors during the winter months. So now you can keep your putting stroke solid during the off season.
Here at PuttingMaster™, we want to make you dramatically better at putting than you are today. We have broken through the barrier of silence where no quantum innovations have been developed until now to address how we putt!
Better yet, it is a practical, affordable and results driven tool that will shave strokes off your game. Our balls provide immediate feedback and promote results that are immediate as well.
Work hard at practice so when it comes to game time, you will be confident and assured that all your hard work in practice will pay huge dividends on the green.
